Fabric Buyers Anonymous

I think then when someone purchases a sewing machine there should be mandatory counselling and some large caution labels about how addictive it is to buy fabric. I love fabric; I look at it online, find ways to shop for it and stroke it and look at what I have and admire it. (Sometimes I even sew with it).

Tuesday is a prime example of my addiction. Do I need fabric? Absolutely not. But I had an appointment followed by a lunch date in a city other than mine, and so I looked up where the quilting stores were. I had a gap before lunch and programmed the addresses into my GPS, then drove to two quilting stores. One I had never been to before, the other I have been to but not since I started the quilting side of my sewing hobby.

At the first store, the Oakville Sewing Centre, I found these beauties:
Fat quarters to add to the stash

1/4m of mini harlequin
And then I made my way to the second store, Quilters' Garden Patch and could not resist these:
More yummy fat quarters
The woman at the second store laughed when, after asking for help, I said I was "just adding unnecessarily to my stash." Her words? "Welcome to the club!"

What makes this more ridiculous is that I am also dancing to my mailbox each day because I am expecting three packages with fabric: my Kona Solids of the Month club from Sew Sisters, and two blogger bundles from Pink Castle fabric ordered days apart.

I thought that perhaps I should go at least a month without buying any fabric. If the last six months are any indication, a month without buying fabric may be impossible. August is obviously done with, and so I was thinking of going on a fabric fast for September. Then I remembered- my husband is taking me for a weekend in Chicago in September and already found quilting stores for me! (Wonderful man). So I can't do September. October it is! I'll see if I can make it from October 1 to October 31 without buying fabric. I'm breaking into a sweat just thinking about it! Are you better at resisting the fabric-buying urge than I am?

  1. Love the title of this post! It's definitely a dangerous game and fabric can be so lovely and tempting. I just got back from an amazing weekend in Seattle with lots of fabric shopping and here I am thinking about ordering some of the new Lotta Jansdotter fabric that is just coming out. How amazing of your husband to check out the Chicago fabric shops for you!
